Interchange University of Hawaiʻi students (called “interchangers”) will come to your class five times during the program for conversation practice. You and classmates will have conversations with interchangers for about 50 minutes each time.
Interchange is a great opportunity to meet American students, practice English, learn about American culture, and share your own culture. Your teacher will provide a variety of topics and assign different partners each time.
Hawaiian Hula Workshop Hula is an important part of Hawaiian culture. Your class will attend a Hawaiian Hula workshop with a native Hawaiian "kumu hula" (hula teacher).
At this workshop, you get to learn about Hawaiian culture and enjoy learning to dance hula.
Off-campus Educational Opportunities Your teacher will plan two off-campus activities during class hours, which are related to your English lessons.
They allow you to practice English outside of the classroom in a more natural setting. Please see your program calendar for the schedule of these Educational Activities. Attendance is required.
Optional Activities Students may sign up for other events, which are offered during the Three-week Program. Please see the Optional Activity Flyer for details (or ask your teacher) about the types of activities that are available. Attendance is not required.
Graduation Program Students are recognized for their achievement during a graduation ceremony and luncheon held on the last day of the term.
All students who have met the attendance and program requirements receive a Certificate of Participation. Students actively participate in the graduation program by providing speeches and entertainment.
